Amazon.com

It's very frustrating working on my book and video listings on Amazon.

I do a search for Cloth Dollmaking (which is the exact title of my book) and it doesn't show up on the list at all (frustrated!)

So I go in and add the phrase "cloth dollmaking" to the keywords, description, and "more info" to bring it up in the Amazon search engine.

It is now at number 5... (Huh! Why is it not number one?)

But because someone else is listing the old version in 3-ring binder (and calling that a Hardback Book!!!) and they don't show a photo of it, the cover photo doesn't show up in the listing... Why should this concern me? Because my book, the spiral bound paperback version is grouped with the hardback, and for some reason, theirs is first, so whatever is first determines whether there's a photo or not...(aaargh!)

So I upload my own photo to their listing. It is the cover that was used on the 3-ring binder, which is slightly different than the one I'm using now (just the typeface is different).

So... even though it's not showing up (STILL!) I think it's just a matter of time for Amazon to process it, and it will eventually show up. (fingers crossed!)

But I can't imagine why it is so low on the search... The only thing I can think of now is that it hasn't been reviewed. So I'm asking you all... If you've bought my book, or read it, would you do me a favor and go to Amazon.com and review it for me?

I think this link will get you there: Cloth Dollmaking

Thanks so much in advance! I'll let you know if it made a difference!

(Aren't blogs fun?)

  1. Delighted to have just reviewed your book, which has been so helpful to me in learning different techniques for dollmaking! You are an excellent teacher - I have some of your video's which have been hugely helpful in conjunction with the book, and what I have learned has been instrumental in my teaching practice and pattern designing.
So good to know you are back on the scene to us all!

    1. Thank you so much! I am floored to get 3 five-star reviews off the bat! OMG! The comments were so kind! I feel like Sally Field... "You like me! You really like me!"

  2. I just pulled up your book, Noni, on Amazon, and the photo is now displaying. And so far, you have three reviews! I had given your books to my twin sis, since she loves to make soft-sculpted dolls (whereas, I sculpt from wood or clay), so I will ask her to also contribute her own review. I think I will order a copy of my own of your Cloth Dollmaking book! I still enjoy sewing, too.

I love the design of your blog. Since I love books so much (who needs wallpaper for walls when you have books?!), I cannot think of anything nicer to use for your background image. Did you paint this yourself? Love it!

Godspeed with updating your URLs! Thanks so much for remembering us all!

    1. Thanks so much Charlotte!
On my computer, the photo still is "unavailable" in the search engine. But it's there when I click on the book.

And, as for my blog design, it's just one of the choices you have when you go to blogspot. So glad you like it. It was an obvious choice for me! I love books. I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love right now, and when I'm done, I'm going to start "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo."
      Ciao,
      Noni

  3. Unfortunately search rankings are NOT determined by photos. They are determined by how long a page or item has been online and how many hits they get. Standard search engine protocol. If they pay for their listing with ads that also gives them a hand up.

Unfortunately the words of the title of your book are also classic keywords.

As a web developer/designer/SEO professional IMO if you make the first page in a search you are so LUCKY. Everyone wants to be number one and number one isn't actually the best thing to be. There is a lot of crap that is number 1.

The beautiful quality of your work and the really top notch videos will serve you just fine at #5 and in time your ratings will rise.

I almost never choose the number one option but I found you and was impressed immediately. As long as you're on page one you're in good shape.

    Good luck!

  5. I do have a question. Is there a volume 1? Or is volume 2 a reprint or revision if you're first book. Is everything in volume 2? Because i don't want to miss anything

    Thank you!

  8. Hi there! Glad to find your blog! I'd love to buy your "Cloth Dollmaking" vol. 1 book but all I see is the 3-ring binder option on Amazon.com despite searching around for other options. Do you have it listed somewhere other than Amazon at this point or is it just out of print entirely?
